1) y = 1/2 x + 3 and y = 1/2 x  are parallel

2) y = 1/2 x + 4   and   y = 1/2 x + 1  are parallel

Two lines are parallel only if their slope is equal.

1)

In the first problem:

y = 1/2 x + 3 and y = 1/2 x have same slope ( i.e slope = 1/2)

That means these two equations are parallel to each other.

2)

In the second problem:

y = 1/2 x + 4   and   y = 1/2 x + 1 have same slope( i.e slope = 1/2)

Hence above two equations are parallel to each other.
