The reproductive advantage that amniotes have over pre-amniotes is producing eggs with internal membranes whereby can embryo can breath without water because the said membrane let the gases through but not water. Thus, amniotic eggs can be laid on land not like the early amniotes (pre-amniotes) that they have to return to water to reproduce.
