and the bigger be y

x+y=31-----------1

so

y=(2x+4)

Step two:

put y=(2x+4 in equation 1 we have

x+2x+4=31

3x+4=31

3x=31-4

3x=27

divide both sides by 3

x=27/3

x=9

the smaller integer is 9

the bigger is 2(9)+4= 18+4=22
