4y + 5 = -31
4y +(5 minus 5) = -31  minus 5  (in affect move the 5 "over")
4y =-36 ( - 31 minus 5 = -36)
4y/4 = -36/4 (divide the 4 from both sides)
y= -9 (-36 divide by 4 = -9)
