In the 1980s, political and religious conservatives joined to form the New Right. This group of individuals became politically motivated following a number of high-profile Supreme Court cases such as the Roe v. Wade decision allowing abortions starting in the early 1970s. These decisions led religiously motivated voters to the right end of the political spectrum.
