The philosophes were a group of intellectuals during the French enlightenment in the eighteenth century. They were composed of people from numerous fields, including science, philosophy, politics, and broader social issues. They were committed to finding weaknesses in society and improving them. They strongly challenged organized religion and feudalism, both of which had been centers of society up to this point.
