The biggest bird in the word is the ostrich. They're also one of the heaviest birds, which cuts off their ability to fly. Even baby ostriches can't fly because they have enormous weight, too!
These birds are becoming more and more endangered each day because of overhunting and habitat destruction. If the ostrich went extinct, then the new largest 'living' bird would be the emu. The emu can't fly, either, for the same reason the ostrich has.
